One small act can make a big difference.
As we arrive at the end of the first week of Civility Month, we’d like to invite every colleague across CSS to make a personal commitment to helping create the kind of workplace we all want to be part of.
Civility isn’t about grand gestures. It’s about the everyday interactions that shape how people feel at work. A warm greeting, checking in on a colleague, listening with respect, saying thank you, being inclusive in meetings, or offering support when someone is having a difficult day.
These small actions matter.
Research consistently shows that compassionate, respectful workplaces improve staff wellbeing, strengthen team relationships and ultimately help us deliver safer, better care for patients. When people feel valued and respected, they are more likely to speak up, contribute ideas, support one another and perform at their best.
That’s why we’re asking colleagues to make a Civility Pledge.

What is a Civility Pledge?
A Civility Pledge is a simple personal commitment to one action that you will take to make CSS a kinder, more respectful and inclusive place to work.
Your pledge might be:
- I will thank at least one colleague every day.
- I will make time to check in with my team members each week.
- I will actively listen without interrupting.
- I will welcome new colleagues and help them feel included.
- I will challenge uncivil behaviour respectfully when I see it.
- I will perform one act of kindness every day.
There is no right or wrong pledge. The most important thing is that it is meaningful to you.
Be Part of the Movement
Throughout Civility Month, we want to showcase the fantastic commitments being made across CSS and celebrate the collective impact we can achieve together.
Once you’ve completed your pledge, please send it to gemmaclare.loveridge@mft.nhs.uk or tanya.williams@mft.nhs.uk
We’ll be sharing examples throughout the month to inspire others and demonstrate the many different ways kindness, respect and civility show up in our daily work.
Our Collective Commitment
Civility is not an optional extra. It is fundamental to how we work together, how we support one another and how we care for our patients.
Imagine the difference if every one of us committed to one small positive action each day.
A smile. A thank you. A conversation. A helping hand.
Small acts, repeated consistently, create the culture we all want to experience.
Complete your Civility Pledge today and help us make kindness, respect and inclusion everyone’s responsibility.
