Since welcoming its first patients in June, our Manchester and Trafford Community Diagnostic Centre (CDC) at Withington Community Hospital has delivered more than 53,000 tests and appointments. On Thursday 29 October, it was officially opened.

Health Minister Karin Smyth MP cut the ribbon alongside Manchester Withington MP Jeff Smith, marking the next chapter for a centre that is already making a real difference to local people.

Care closer to home, when it suits patients
Open 12 hours a day, seven days a week, the centre offers MRI, CT, ultrasound and DEXA scans in the heart of the community, so more patients can get the tests they need without travelling to a major hospital site.

And this is just the beginning
We’re now developing one-stop pathways, where tests, diagnosis and treatment planning can all happen in a single visit. That means fewer appointments, less waiting and clearer answers, sooner.
A Women’s Hub is also planned, which will bring gynaecology services closer to local communities.
