Ellis was only 39 years old when a heart attack during a football match left him facing heart failure. A year later, he was on the urgent transplant waiting list at Wythenshawe Hospital.
A donor heart became available just two weeks later, giving Ellis a second chance at life. Now back home with his wife and two daughters, he is looking forward to the future and making the most of every day.
Reflecting on his experience, Ellis said, “It is impossible to express the depth of gratitude I feel towards my donor’s family for giving me the ultimate gift: the chance to watch my two little girls grow up.”
Ellis also wanted to thank our incredible colleagues who cared for him at Wythenshawe Hospital: “My time at the Wythenshawe Heart and Lung Centre was nothing short of extraordinary. The transplant team and every member of staff go so far beyond their standard duties.”
