BBC Sport have shared the story of Martyn, whose life was saved in November 2024 when he had a successful heart transplant at our Heart and Lung Transplant Centre at Wythenshawe Hospital.
Less than two years later, Martyn scored for England in their 5-1 win over Spain in the Transplant Football World Cup final!

Martyn spent his youth career in the academy at Manchester United, before spells at Blackburn Rovers, Preston North End and Burnley, so he is no stranger to a football pitch, though the games look a little bit different in the Transplant World Cup.
As the recipient of a donor heart, Martyn has to manage his exercise workload more carefully than even his teammates, many of whom have had kidney transplants, and he played in impressive 10-minute bursts.
