This World Physiotherapy Day, we’re celebrating Jenny Harrison, AHP Consultant Physiotherapist across our inpatient stroke services — and everything her role shows about the power of physio done brilliantly.
Jenny works across stroke units at Trafford General and MRI, supporting Wythenshawe’s stroke patients too, and joins the medical team’s ward rounds to help manage the most complex cases. But it’s her drive to keep improving that really stands out.
Through 2026–27, Jenny’s been leading a cardiorespiratory work stream to boost aerobic fitness in stroke patients — including a daily circuit class at Trafford General, with outcomes being tracked to prove the impact. She’s also co-authoring a scoping review with colleagues in Cambridge, heading for publication in Clinical Rehabilitation, looking at how stroke and TIA patients could benefit from cardiac rehab-style classes. On top of that, she’s benchmarking services across both units against national guidelines to close equity gaps wherever they exist.
And then there’s the garden — informally known as Frank’s Garden, after the physio colleague who tends it most evenings until 5 or 6pm. For patients facing long stints of rehab, that outdoor space isn’t a nice-to-have. It’s a genuine boost to health and wellbeing, and a small reminder that recovery is about more than the ward.
