Some love stories just can’t wait — and thanks to a wonderful team of Critical Care colleagues, Patricia M Davidson and her partner Stephen got their happy ending after all.
Patricia was due to marry Stephen on 3 August 2026, but after being admitted to hospital, she wasn’t well enough to leave and make it to the venue. For most people, that might have meant postponing the big day. Not for Patricia — she was determined to marry the love of her life, hospital stay or not!
So the Critical Care team rolled up their sleeves and got planning. The very next morning, at 10am on 4 August, Patricia and Stephen tied the knot right there on the High Dependency Unit, surrounded by family, marriage registrars, and the staff who’d been caring for her. The team pulled out all the stops to mark the occasion — cards, gifts, two cakes, a bottle of Prosecco and a beautiful bouquet of roses.

And in true Patricia style, the coordinated wedding outfits were a little different: hospital gowns for her partner and family, worn proudly for the photographs. The team happily sourced extra gowns so everyone could join in the fun.
Patricia has since stepped down to the ward and is already looking forward to a bigger celebration with her family. She and Stephen wanted to share their heartfelt thanks to the Critical Care team for their kindness, compassion, and for going above and beyond to turn a hospital ward into a wedding venue filled with love and laughter.
A gorgeous reminder that even in the most unexpected of places, love (and a brilliant team) always finds a way. Congratulations, Patricia and Stephen! 🎉💍
