Healthcare scientists from Pakistan visit Manchester

UKHSA’s International Health Regulations Strengthening Project hosted a Technical Learning Exchange with colleagues from Pakistan’s National Institute of Health, coinciding with Learning at Work Week.

The first event, at Manchester Medical Microbiology Partnership, brought together laboratory scientists and public health leaders to explore shared challenges and priorities in global health security.

Teams shared their approaches to laboratory quality and governance, biosafety, diagnostic systems and outbreak management, while colleagues from Pakistan presented on dengue outbreak management, COVID-19 response and the development of the first public health laboratory in Pakistan.

Discussions focused on the realities of operating in different resource settings, allowing participants to compare systems and identify both common challenges and differing approaches.

By bringing together expertise from different health systems, the visit helped to further develop professional networks and build on the long-standing relationship between UKHSA and Pakistan’s National Institute of Health.

This partnership, established over several years, provided a strong foundation for constructive discussions during the week and helped to highlight opportunities for further technical cooperation and shared learning on common public health challenges.
