Manchester Medical Microbiology Partnership (MMMP) welcomed Manchester Rusholme MP Afzal Khan for a tour of its laboratories.
The visit followed an introduction at an IBMS event celebrating 10 years of Biomedical Science Day at the House of Commons.
Mr Khan was present at the event and, after learning more about the contribution biomedical scientists make to healthcare, expressed an interest in visiting a hospital laboratory within his constituency.
Mr Khan said: “From what I have seen, this is a very impressive department.”

MMMP was pleased to support the request, giving the MP the opportunity to see first-hand the vital work carried out by Laboratory Medicine staff.
During the visit, Daniel Hughes, Deputy Laboratory Manager for Bacteriology, and Alan Lord, Virology Laboratory Manager, provided tours of their respective departments and showcased the services delivered by the partnership.
The visit helped demonstrate the significant impact MMMP has on the local community and beyond, supporting patients across Greater Manchester and contributing to the wider healthcare system.
