Lab Medicine staff invited to Houses of Parliament

Laboratory Medicine staff were among a select group invited to the Houses of Parliament to celebrate 10 years of Biomedical Science Day.

Zonya Jeffrey, Frances Lowe and Helen Markland enjoyed an afternoon at the Palace of Westminster, where they were also able to network with the other invited IBMS (Institute of Biomedical Science) members.

The event followed the 10th anniversary of Biomedical Science Day, which took place in June.

The special reception took place in the Thames Pavillion at the House of Commons and celebrated both the success of Biomedical Science Day and the contribution biomedical scientists make to patient care and the wider healthcare system.

Among the Members of Parliament present was Manchester Rusholme MP Afzal Khan. After taking part in the biomedical science event, he was keen to visit a hospital laboratory in his constituency. Manchester Medical Microbiology Partnership was happy to support his request, and so Mr Khan was taken on a tour of the MMMP labs at the end of July.
