MFT has been recognised at the 2026 Advancing Healthcare Awards, with the Greater Manchester Pre-Hospital Point of Care Troponin Pilot highly commended in the category for best collaboration across clinical, academia and industry.
The awards, held at the Royal Garden Hotel in Kensington, London, celebrate innovative practice by allied health professionals, healthcare scientists and support teams across the UK.

The pilot was originated and clinically led by Professor Rick Body, Professor of Emergency Medicine at MFT and the University of Manchester, and implemented at North West Ambulance Service by Phillip Jones, Innovation Consultant and Advanced Practitioner.
It brought together MFT, NWAS, UoM, Health Innovation Manchester and Siemens Healthineers to explore pre-hospital point of care troponin testing for patients calling 999 with chest pain.
Collaboration was central to the project, with clinical leadership, paramedic expertise, healthcare science, innovation and IP, information governance, project management, industry support, health economics, evaluation and PhD research all contributing to the pilot.
MFT’s Innovation team and Biochemistry and Point of Care Testing department supported the collaboration, with project management from Dr James Corden, Innovation and IP Lead, and specialist healthcare science input around analytical quality and governance.
The recognition highlights the importance of cross-sector collaboration in driving healthcare innovation, particularly during a time of significant financial and operational pressure across the NHS.
