This Learning Disability Awareness Week, Critical Care didn’t just tick a box — we got stuck in.
Led by our brilliant Learning Disability Champion Nurses — Ali, Amanda, Emma, Sahar, Shyny and Jini — the team ran a week of sessions designed to make a real difference to how we care for patients with learning disabilities and their carers.
On the agenda:
- A staff quiz that put knowledge to the test
- Personal pledges — because awareness means nothing without action
- Deep dives into reasonable adjustments, patient flagging, and HIVE documentation
- The launch of our brand-new patient and carer leaflet
And staff didn’t hold back. Engagement was excellent all week, with colleagues jumping into discussions, activities, and honest conversations about how we can do better.
That enthusiasm says it all: inclusive, person-centred care isn’t a slogan in Critical Care — it’s how we work.
A huge thank you to our Champion Nurses for leading the charge, and to every member of staff who got involved. Here’s to keeping that momentum going all year round. 💙
