From Radiology to the Great Wall: Jill’s 49-mile trek for charity 💙

Jill Nixon in Radiology Admin has completed a trek along the Great Wall of China for charity and is so close to hitting a ÂŁ4,000 target for the MFT charity.

If you can support in any way then that would be great. She has climbed 49 miles in the 35 degree heat!

She flew to Beijing, had a warm up trek along the Taipingzhai section of the wall returning to Huangyaguan. She then restarted the wall at the stunning Gubeikou section covering 27 watch towers.

She trekked from Jinshanling which is one of the remote sections of the wall, far from the tourist trail, also covering sections in Mutianyu covering 1000 steps that make up the ‘heavenly ladder’.

Jill also provided some much needed stretching to the rest of the group that was walking with her on the trek and at one point some Chinese school children decided to join in the session! Well done Jill!

Jill said: “I completed a trek across The Sahara Desert in March 2022 for Royal Manchester Children’s Hospital. It was the most amazing experience I have ever done. I had many challenges along the way, I was totally out of my comfort zone and met some fantastic people. It was very hot in the day and very cold at night. Sleeping under the stars in the most amazing environment. We won’t talk about the ‘toilet tent’ LOL.”

“This time I walked The Great Wall of China which has been voted one of the New Seven Wonders of the World. Stretching for 6,000km, it zig-zags its way across China, snaking across mountains and through valleys. Again, I am fundraising for the Royal Manchester Children’s Hospital, my preference has always been to raise money for a children’s charity and a close to home one.”
