Congratulations to Louise Sweeney, Consultant Microbiologist, who has been appointed as Antimicrobial Stewardship Lead for the Trust.

This is an important role for MFT, strengthening how we use antibiotics safely and effectively, and helping us respond to the NHS England “Call to action” on antimicrobial stewardship. It’s work that really matters—protecting patients now while also tackling the longer‑term challenge of antimicrobial resistance.

Louise brings a wealth of clinical expertise and a clear commitment to improving patient safety and outcomes. She is well known for her collaborative approach and her ability to bring people together across services to drive meaningful change.

In this role, Louise will lead work across the Trust to embed best practice, support teams, and ensure we are making the most effective use of antimicrobial treatments across all care settings.

Louise said:
“I’m really pleased to be taking on this role at such an important time. Antimicrobial stewardship is everyone’s responsibility, and I’m looking forward to working with colleagues across the Trust to build on the great work already underway, strengthen how we use these vital medicines, and improve outcomes for our patients.”

Please join us in congratulating Louise and wishing her every success in her new role.
