The first PRISE Showcase Event (Pharmacy Project, Research, Innovation and Service Evaluation) took place on 6 February 2026 — and it proved just how much pharmacy-led innovation is improving care for our patients.
Held in the Seminar Room on the 6th Floor of St Mary’s Hospital, the event brought together pharmacy staff and partners from across the Trust. Colleagues shared projects covering research, service evaluation, audit, and quality improvement — all focused on safer, more effective, and more patient‑centred care.
Celebrating innovation that makes a real difference
Chief Pharmacist Prof. Charlotte Skitterall opened the day by thanking teams for their commitment to evidence-based practice and for driving improvements that directly support better patient outcomes. She highlighted how pharmacy continues to play a vital role in helping services run more smoothly and making the best use of NHS resources.
Ideas that improve care, safety and flow
The programme featured a wide range of presentations, including work in:
- Emergency care
- Respiratory medicine
- Medicines optimisation
- Workforce development
- Advanced therapies
- Service redesign
Many of the projects showed real‑world impact — such as faster clinical interventions, improved patient flow, safer prescribing, and more efficient use of medicines and staff time.
Panel Q&A: how research supports better care
A lively panel Q&A followed, with colleagues at different stages of their research careers. They shared how getting involved in research has helped shape their clinical, academic, and clinical trials roles.
The message was clear: research and evaluation help us deliver safer, stronger, more innovative services.
Posters, networking and shared learning
The poster session created a real buzz, with lots of discussion and idea-sharing. Posters covered everything from improving access to care, reducing unwarranted variation, and supporting multidisciplinary working, to innovations that make life easier for both patients and staff.
Award spotlight: Best Poster
Congratulations to Hannah Phelan, who won Best Poster for her project:
“The impact of an early pharmacist review in the Emergency Department.”
Her work showed how targeted pharmacy involvement earlier in a patient’s journey can improve outcomes and support more efficient, safer ED services.
A huge thank you to everyone involved
The Pharmacy Senior Leadership Team passed on their thanks to:
- All presenters, poster authors and panel members
- Supervisors and supporters
- Everyone who attended and contributed
- And especially Sophia Boydell and Dr Beatriz Duran, whose planning and coordination made the event possible
Looking ahead
This first PRISE Showcase has set a strong foundation for the future. Pharmacy’s contribution to patient care, value‑based delivery, and sustainable NHS services was clear throughout the day.
Plans are already underway to grow the programme and continue supporting pharmacy-led research, innovation, and service evaluation across MFT.
