💙 Helping a long‑stay patient feel human again

Every week, our teams go above and beyond for patients, families and colleagues.

Here are four standout moments that show the heart, skill and compassion across our divisions.

💙 Helping a long‑stay patient feel human again

Siobhan Wilde & Rima Fitzgerald – Physiotherapy, MRI
A patient transferred from another hospital arrived feeling isolated, frightened and unsure what had happened to them. Rima and Siobhan took the time to understand his story, set personal goals, chase up equipment, and support him through some incredibly low moments. Their work helped him regain confidence, mobility and hope – and even get outside for the first time in months.

❤️ Spotting a life‑saving warning sign

Joseph Foster – Cardiothoracic Critical Care Unit, Wythenshawe
During a routine review, Joseph noticed a new heart murmur in a very unwell patient. His careful assessment and quick action led to urgent scans, confirming acute severe mitral regurgitation. Because he acted fast, the patient was transferred for emergency surgery at exactly the right time.

🛡️ Pharmacy catch prevents serious harm

Kiana Daneshnia – Pharmacy, Wythenshawe
Kiana picked up a dangerous drug interaction in a Cystic Fibrosis patient’s prescription – one that wasn’t visible on the electronic medication list. Her attention to detail meant the team could change the treatment before it reached the patient, preventing a potential serious reaction.

đź’› Compassion that made all the difference for a family

Natasha Singh & Sarah Flood – Cardiothoracic Critical Care Unit, Wythenshawe

A former patient’s family recently returned to the unit to say thank you. They wanted to give special recognition to Natasha and Sarah for the exceptional care and emotional support they provided during an incredibly difficult time.

The family described their compassion as “making a huge difference” and wanted to ensure their gratitude was formally shared.
