“Because leadership is not just about tasks — it’s about how we make people feel.” written by Yolandé Davies

This piece has been written by our very own Yolandé Davies MSc, FIBMS, Chief Biomedical Scientist, General Haematology Laboratory.

As a values-driven leader, I pledge to lead with integrity, empathy, and respect, recognising that civility is the cornerstone of a healthy, high-performing team.

I will lead by example, treating every individual with dignity, regardless of role, background, or opinion.

I will listen with intent, speak with kindness, and act with fairness, fostering a culture where people feel safe, valued, and heard.

I commit to creating a respectful environment where feedback is constructive, differences are celebrated, and conflict is approached with compassion and courage. I will call out incivility and address behaviours that undermine team cohesion, psychological safety, or quality of care.

Through my leadership, I will uphold the highest standards of professionalism, accountability, and care, supporting others to thrive, even in times of pressure, uncertainty, or change.

I pledge to remain present, approachable, and resilient.

In doing so, I will contribute to a just and inclusive culture that supports well-being, cultivates trust, and drives continuous improvement in the service of patients and each other.

Because leadership is not just about tasks — it’s about how we make people feel. Civility starts with me.
