The Diagnostics Improvement Learning Summit on 6 June brought together leaders and staff from across MFT to share learning, celebrate successes and collaborate on opportunities for innovation and improvement within diagnostics.
The day was designed to inspire collaborative thinking and meaningful action. Multi disciplinary teams showcased some of the outstanding improvement work happening across MFT.
Presentations covered the variety of diagnostic tests now delivered through the MFT Community Diagnostic Centres (CDCs) in Withington and North Manchester and the work to improve the accessibility of patient information leaflets.
Attendees heard about how we’re reducing the need for children and young people to have scans under general anaesthesia/sedation via improved access to play therapy and the work going on to optimise cardiac diagnostic pathways.
A new digital tool developed by the MFT Imaging and Radiant teams which reduces reporting delays and ensures patients receive their results faster was showcased – a first of its kind within EPIC. The summit also received a presentation on the innovative Ordering Wisely programme, which aims to reduce unnecessary testing for our patients across Laboratory Medicine, Imaging and Pharmacy services.
Groups worked on priority areas such as demand management, diagnostics prioritisation, booking and scheduling, flow in emergency and inpatient settings, and outpatient session utilisation. The day concluded with reflections from Gareth Adams, CSS Chief Executive, reinforcing the importance of shared learning, sustained improvement, and collective purpose.
The event reinforced that improvement is not a one-time activity, but a shared journey, driven by curiosity, powered by collaboration and sustained through purpose. Let’s continue to improve diagnostics together!
